The Name

The original meaning of the Hawaiian term Ho’okupu is a blessing, a gift given to fisherman, farmers and the like, wishing great prosperity, and to create. In more recent times, it has been the name given to a ceremony performed at surfing contests whereby surfers from around the world bring local waters to be mixed then poured at the site to bring good waves and good fortune!
